Yes, it first came out in 1973 and was intended as an elegy to her early death- her real name was Norma Jean Baker. The song was actually called 'Candle In The Wind'- he released a version of it with altered lyrics in tribute to Princess Diana when she was killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997, and played it at her funeral.
'Candle In The Wind' was a tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe, whose real name was Norma Jean Baker. It was a condemnation of the way she was treated by the film industry and the media, who he felt exploited her and forced her to continue with a lifestyle she was unhappy with, which led to her suicide in 1962. A re-released version of the song, with altered lyrics, came out in September 1997 as a tribute to Princess Diana following her death in a car crash in Paris. Elton was a close friend of Diana's, and he sang it at her funeral.
Originally about Marilyn Monroe- Good Bye Norma Jean. It is a tight squeeze adapting the Lyrics to Princess Diana. As far as I know, no. Certainly he played no part in any official mourning, a task that eventually fell to Elton John. The song Goodbye England's Rose, is essentially a parody on Elton"s song Goodbye Norma Jean, about Marilyn Monroe and the lyrics were skillfully revised. An interesting fact is I do not think that Princess Diana was ever referred to as England"s Rose. a well known, her birthday is the fourth of July, Italian actress, is, however styled the Rose Of Fair Italy, this title being borrowed from lyrics in the song Santa Lucia. To Gina, we set up our sights!

Yes, at least one: "Candle in the Wind", music by Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin.

England"s Rose- is a eulogy type song about Princess Diana. It was written and performed by Elton John. Princess Diana died in an auto accident in l997- nothing to do with the Titanic wreck. The song, by the way is an adaptation or parody on an older song Goodbye Norma Jean, which is about Marilyn Monroe. The character Kate in Titanic does not die- as part of the story line- so the Goodbye angles are , well off course.
