Mushroomhead was NOT "signed" in 1993. They had been independently releasing their music. They played their first show on October 22nd 1993. Days later, the octet found itself on stage alongside established metal band GWAR. (I was there, pogosticks and cabbage!)

Mushroomhead was heavily pursued and offered deals by RoadRunner records, all of which included losing profits from their merchandise among other issues. Coincidentally, RoadRunner signed Slipknot.
I don't understand the people that do not listen. I have known Jeff (vocalist, Mushroomhead) since his time in Purgatoryand Hatrix (prior to shroom).
Mushroomhead have been around longer, and Slipknotis a great band!
I do, however believe their visual image was created by the record company, when it was spurned by Mushroomhead. Some of the masks and jumpsuits were IDENTICAL to old Mushroomhead.
I got to go with shroomhead. they been around longer and I think they sound better then slipknot. Plus, I live in Ohio; Just 40 min away from cleveland, where their from. slipknot got big off what Mushroomhead help create. not enough people give mushroomhead their credit. RoadRunner Records and slipknot both screwed mushroomhead over. though recently(late 2009, early 2010) I heard the rivalery is over. Sites have said That Steve "Skinny" Felton and Waylon Reavis have both said this in recent interviews.

There has always been a rivalry due to the fact that mushroomhead fans have accused Slipknot of stealing their masked look, and vice-versa.

This is an ongoing debate. Slipknot defend themselves with the reasons behind each members on masks. However, the gimmick of wearing macks was originally taken by a progressive metal band known as Mushroomhead who were to be singed by Roadrunner records yet instead Slipknot were singed. Coincidence?
