Hot August Night is not a song, but it is the opening line of one of his songs, Brother Love"s travelling Salvation Show, which is mildly anti-religious, the line Now You got yourself two good hands, one for to give and one for to take (bad Grammar) seems to be poking fun at the Last Supper and Communion. I find it sickening to see a sacrament profaned in such a fashion. I believe the concert was televised, there were several Diamond gigs given TV coverage. Mr. Diamond never had a regularily scheduled program like Glenn Campbell or the Don Kirshner rock concerts.
Sorry, but you have it all wrong. Firstly, the question was if there was any visual recording (e.g. DVD) of the performance on August 24, 1972. This performance was - "Hot August Night." There is no video of the concert; there are only a few still images.
It is not "mildly anti-religious. It is about a powerful/dynamic preacher preaching to his congregation. The line is in fact "Now you got yourself two good hands, one for the giving and one for the taking" (grammatically correct). And no, it is not poking fun at the Last Supper or Communion. The concert was not televised. Just where did you get your "information" from? - Neil Diamond fan of 40 years.
The DVD is exclusive to Walmart. Here is the link: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11603201

I don't know whether a film was made of it but I do know that it was televised. I was in Singapore and watched the whole concert - I was mesmerised. I am certain that it would be really popular if the televised concert was released on DVD - so, come on whoever owns the rights to the televised concert, release it on DVD! ----Yes it was released on VHS, sorry no DVD release, and they are not planning on it from what they have told me after calling them several times. The VHS is extremely rare, I have looked at Ebay, Amazon, heck even tried googleing to see if anyone had a VHS for sales as mine plays about 1/4 of the show and then automatically rewinds.--- ***T-Lar Seth***
