On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shukur (sometimes written 2Pac or simply Pac), was attending a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Sheldon at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. While Tupac and his "entourage" were leaving the match, one of his entourage members informed Tupac that he had spotted Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson of the Southside Crips. After seeing Anderson, Tupac and his associates began to assault Anderson. After the assault, Tupac and his friends left the boxing match and went riding. At about 11:10 P.M., while stopped at a red light in front of Flamingo Hotel, a vehicle which contained two women pulled up to the light. Tupac then stood up out the sunroof and exchanged words with the women, and then invited them to Club 662. At approximately 11:15 P.M., a white, four-door Cadillac pulled up to the right side of Tupac's vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle then began to rapidly fire. Tupac was hit in the pelvis, chest, right hand, and thigh. Once paramedics and law enforcement arrived at the scene of the shooting, Tupac was rushed to University Medical Center. At the hospital, Tupac was in and out of consciousness, he was heavily sedated, was placed on respirators and ventilators, placed on life support, and eventually put under a barbiturate-induced coma. While in the critical care unit of the hospital, Tupac began to hemorrhage and stopped breathing. Doctors attempted to revive Tupac, but they could not stop the internal bleeding. Tupac's mother, Afeni, gave doctors the order to cease CPR. Tupac was pronounced dead at 4:03 P.M. on September 13, 1996. Tupac's official cause of death was noted as respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest. His body was cremated and some of his ashes were mixed with marijuana and smoked by members of the Outlawz.
Tupac's body cannot be seen by the fans. His mother claims that he was cremated and that some of his ash is in her custody.
