It depends on what skill level you want to reach/if you are a natural at rhythm. If you are rhythmically talented, then basic beats should be fairy easy to learn, however more in depth things, such as getting perfectly in tempo (known as "in the pocket" or "in the groove"), having great technique and stamina, are extremely hard things to master, especially if the beat gets more complex. Mastering the drums definitely takes loads of practice, and is generally a harder to reach goal that mastering many other instruments. Being a natural at rhythm is one of the most important factors to becoming a good drummer. If you can't keep time, then becoming a drummer will be extremely difficult.
so thus, feeling and playing the steady beat/pulse and rhythm of a music piece is a very important aspect of good drumming, of course having fun is one of them too
Some of it is quite challenging, but once you learn the basics the rest builds on top of that.
I play for a pipe band and i have played lead drummer when the usual lead drummer was sick.
So yes it is challenging but it depends how much effort you put in and stick at it
Hope i helped
PS. im only 13 wooohoooo
Well, i can bet you that many people would say that it is extremely easy!! That is partially true!! It is actually more than that! You may be asking yourself why is that hard to play the drums? It more than just sitting behind a drum kit and playing like mad man! There is a major difference between making a heck lot of noise and actually playing the drums. Playing the drums requires a sense of rhythm. If you know the basics of playing the drums, it is fairly easy to play the 8th notes beats and etc. But, as you progress and develop a deeper interest in your instrument, it becomes harder to play as you learn more complicated beats and rudiments. Hand coordination is also an important aspect in playing the drums!! If you can't control the movement of your hands and legs, it will very difficult to play. Stamina is also very important. It is crucial that you have stamina because you will need ALOT of it when playing. This may come very naturally to some people, to some people, it may seem almost impossible. Another one is putting your all in playing the drums! I've known a lot of people who simply gave drumming in a period of around 5-6 months. This is because they don't understand what it means to be a drummer or sometimes it is too hard for some people. Creating your own techniques and methods is also something good cause if you do become a drummer as your career, it will definitely help so that you have your own 'signature technique'..Therefore, with enough practice understanding, for you to play the drums is not difficult. Hope this helps and keep rocking!!
I would also recommend that you read this article as it helps you understand more about what it takes to be an actual drummer!!
