There are many "military" marches. Perhaps the most familiar are by John Philip Souza
John Philip got a few awards.
John Phillip Sousa mainly wrote marches. He wrote 136 of them earning the title "The March King". He also wrote a waltz, an operetta, a gallop, an oratorio, and some broadway musicals Hope this helped :D
Sousa music is generally very popular in marching bands because he wrote many patriotic marches. Marching band music is, obviously, suited toward marches, and these groups typically perform at patriotic parades.
The beat of a march is normally in two (2/4) and a waltz in three beats (3/4) to the bar. Certain marches often called concert marches are written in four (4/4), but as the name suggests are not for marching. Marches written in 6/8 time are quite common (many Sousa marches are written in 6/8) these are always played with a two to the bar beat.
Many composers wrote marches. John Philip Sousa is probably the most famous for his marches; he was called the "March King."
