I don't think that you can write a paper stating that the creation of the piano changed the world. Wars continued, people continued starving and injustice continued everywhere. But in the world of music, the piano was an improvement over the harpsichord which could only play loud or soft when levers where pushed. Even when on loud, it was unable to penetrate the increasing size of orchestras because its strings were plucked by quills. I'm not a technician, but with felt hammers striking the strings instead of quills plucking them, the sound produced was louder. By being able to produce loud and soft tones rapidly due to the amount of weight or pressure placed on the keys instead of moving a lever, composers were able to write phrases that crescendo and decrescendo and have sudden contrasting dynamics. This allowed greater freedom of expression on the piano than that which had been capable on prior keyboard instruments.

The louder sound enabled composer to write concertos for the piano in which its tones could be heard over the larger Romantic era orchestra that was developing in Beethoven's time as well as the newly built concert halls. Prior to the advent of the piano, concerts were held in smaller venues such as rooms in a royal residences, where the sound of a harpsichord could be heard. When concerts "went public", concert halls were built that seated larger number of audience members and therefore, the size of the orchestra increased....more string players, the newly created metal Flute instead of the softer wooden one being used, brass players beside the French Horns and percussion. The piano could hold its own against the enlarged orchestra.
