There are various ways to do this, and which method you use often depends on what kind of tabs you have. There are tabs that have musical notation or note lengths with them. It's actually quite easy with these types, as you can download a program like "Power Tabs" or "Guitar Pro" and input the notes and note lengths. Of course, this can take a while if you don't know your fretboard, as you will have to look at a fretboard chart for each note, and if you don't know note lengths, it will take even longer. The most common way, and a method I like to use, is just to listen to the song that the tab was made from, playing along and matching note lengths with the ones on the songs. Often times, there are notes that are added and forgotten with tabs, because most are more of an interpretation of a song then the actual way the musician plays it.
the best way is to use the internet, its free and usually you can find ones with various ratings of how accurate they are. 911tabs.com and Ultimate-Guitar.com are the sites i usually go to when it comes to tabs. If anything, its a personal choice on where to find them. Sometimes it wont really matter which site you go to because tabs usually circulate around all guitar tab sites. But, some sites have tabs to just for one band. Like tooltabs.net, or pinkfloydtabs.com, etc. Good luck. Remember, the net, its free! Dont waste your money on tabs books unless you really need them. But, they're more professional looking though; like sheet music
