Yes this is a complex problem however if you are comfortable with some tools here is a step by step answer for you...
Step 1) empty the storage section under the armrest - remove bottom trim plate and remove screws - Pull out cup holder insert and remove 3 screws 2 down in the middle and 1 at an angle pointing towards the dash - remove the armrest and plastic surround as one unit - note you will have to lift the parking brake lever to remove this large piece of plastic.
Step 2) remove 2 screws holding the shifter / dash trim that are now exposed, may also have screw behind ash tray - and remove shifter trim - top part is clipped and the switches are wired so be careful and rotate item out of the way - disconnection wires is not necessary.
Step 3) you now have access to the stereo mounting screws on either side of the stereo - remove them unclip the stereo and install the new wiring harness dash kit and stereo.
Step 4) put everything back together in reverse - note when putting the armrest piece back in you will need to line it up and then smack it lightly from the back to get it to pop back into place with the base of the shifter.
If not comfortable with stuff get the manual as previously suggested or take it to a professional.
The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You need to go to a car parts store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
- You have to remove the 2 screws holding the piece over the e-brake
- then remove the 4 screws holding the piece surrounding the manual/auto shift knob
- then remove the ash-tray and the 3 screws above it that's holding the ash-tray lighting
- by doing that you expose the 2 screws holding the radio, remove those and pul the radio out of it's place
Alot of people would say that there is no point moving the pieces over the e-brake and the shift knob, but without doing that it would be pretty hard to see the screws holding the radio in place.
The slide show pictures when I first opened this page are not a 1990 Accord LX. They must be part of the advertisement to the left. I have one sitting outside at this moment. I don't know what that was but it has no resemblance. That was a much newer model. More like 2000 or newer. Note the nice rounded corners instead of the boxy look of a 1990 Accord LX.
Ok I finally got my CD Player and radio out. If you have a CD player on your 1990 Honda Accord LX, you don't want to damage anything and you don't want to completely disassemble the whole dash of your car then give up. Don't even try. They made that thing integral with the car. I mean they really built that car around that CD Player. You got to get at the screws at the back from behind where you cannot reach. The harness has no connector. The wires run right into the CD Player. They really don't want you removing this CD player. I used a crowbar and busted it out since I am going to junk the car. Just a little warning.
stock radio removal instructions are available @ Honda Radio removal instructions. whatever. do a simple search for the blow up diagram and removal instructions. if you are replacing it with a stock unit, ok. but if you are uing aftermarket, check unit info and instructons for any special wiring and plug set usage. really easy if you just look. there are two screws @the back of the radio u have to get a screw driver under the dash directly behind the radio and remove the two screws and the radio should just pull out
