Okay, first off, screaming doesn't damage your singing voice, if you do it correctly. I've been a hardcore screamer for 3 different bands. What I did was practice screaming and in between verses drink some form of liquid. Eventually I built up a tolerance to screaming, and it has never ever changed my singing voice, which I do for another band.
The above will work; I suppose, but if you still can;t figure it out you must tighten your vocal box.
