Fret a note with your index finger and then rapidly hammer on and pull off a higher note on the same string with one (or more) of your other three fingers. When hammering notes be sure to hit the string hard enough to make the note sound without picking it and when pulling off pluck the string slightly with the finger you hammered with in order to sound the lower note.
