First, remove the front engine cover (the part with the glove box in it) by removing the two screw on the upper sides and the two horizontal nuts on the very bottom front on both sides. Then remove the dash face cover by removing the screw on the top left hand side by the drivers door hinges, and the two screws underneath on each side of the steering coloumn. Once these screw are removed, just give it a good tug to pull it off and over the steering wheel. When this is done, you can see the complete radio. Squeeze the plastic clips on each side of the radio and pull the radio toward you. Now remove the wiring harness and the antennae plug in. The radio is now free and out.
Well, first take only the necessary dash parts off... which would be practically the whole thing. Look carefully for screws because if you force it, there's a good chance you'll break the dash itself, which is no fun. Once you get that off, there are four screws to unscrew the radio... Do so. Then pull the radio out carefully and depending on the radio you're replacing it with, either cut the wires or just use the port and plug it into the new radio. If you cut the wires, be sure to either label what controlled what, or find yourself a handy wireing diagram. If you do that, make sure you get a meter and test each wire to see which one is hot. Tape that wire up right away with the correct wire for your radio, and then start trying to connect the speakers. Btw, there are most likely two hot wires. One that stays hot ALL the time, and one that is only hot when your ignition is started.
Radio AAHS ended in 1998.
That seems to be quite a common problem on the 1998 models , from what I have read it is caused by bad soldered connections inside the radio.
