Wind instruments make music using breath and their construction. They are essentially different shaped hollow tubes with items like finger holes and keys. They make different sounds with these when air is blown into them from the mouth.

On a Clarinet the vibration of the reed makes the sound and the sound comes out of the holes. When you close a hole the air has to find other holes which make different pitches.
