That's a very broad question, I'd like to be believe most people are individuals. How it effects MUSIC however, was the use of the synthesizer. It basically replaced the organ in pop music. As for effecting music today? I can't be sure of pop, I don't like it or play it much. I'm more of a metal man, I can tell you metal bands today use heavy influences from 80s metal like Metallica and Slayer, but for pop, I'm sure that some particular artists influence popular ones today. Just think of Michael Jackson in his Heyday or maybe Cyndi Lauper.
