DUH!!!... Most of the music is written by Billie Joe Armstrong (sex god) and a few songs were written by mike dirnt and tré cool (equally as awesome). They have done a couple covers and like to play covers of songs at their concerts but their music is legendary and i don't think anything can beat it.

Billie Joe Armstrong writes just about all of the lyrics for Green Day. A few songs have been written by Mike Dirnt ("Emenius Sleepus," "J.A.R.," "Ha Ha You're Dead," and part III of "Homecoming:" "Nobody Likes You.") Mike and Billie Joe wrote "Panic Song" together. Tré Cool wrote "Dominated Love Slave" and part IV of "Homecoming:" "Rock and Roll Girlfriend." All three members of Green Day wrote the lyrics to "Misery." The music is always written by Green Day (all three members). However, I did read that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote all of the music for their latest album, "21st Century Breakdown." But in general, Billie writes the words, and Green Day composes the music.
