You can play an instrument you choose, but be careful, see the fact is that if your used to playing a Flute, and then switch to an instrument like a sax, then a clarinet, then a Trumpet, you can mess up your mouth or whats called your embechure, think of it this way, each instrument requires its own personal position on how your mouth should be shaped, how much air you need, and how much force you need to use to play it, you take an instrument like the flute, which is essentially a long tube, then switch to a saxophone which is a curved instrument, which will require more air and more power. Just be careful, you don't want to mess with your mouth too much, which can happen easily from switching from instrument to instrument.
You will have to try each one to see which might work out best for you to learn. The saxophone has valves operated by the fingers and a mouthpiece consisting of a cut reed. The flute has holes for the fingers to cover (this is how the pitch is changed) and a mouthpiece into which one purses their lips and blows downward into it.
Flute is worse. Saxophone is easier and more fun to play then flute.
