technically the 125CC runs best on 10W40 synthetic oil, 5W30 is a little thin for an air cooled engine.
Of course you should always follow the owner's manual recommendations but our jeeps don't need anything special in the way of oil. For a 95 synthetic would be a waste of money and that high mileage oil seems to be a gimmick. So, use the same type of oil every 3000 miles with a new filter and 10W30 or 10W40 would be fine. If you're leaking or burning a lot of oil (more than a quart every oil change) go ahead and use a less expensive oil if you want to. These vehicles don't live forever.
Although it depends a little bit on where in the world you live I would suggest that a good quality 10W40 will do just fine. Some will tell you that a 5W30 is better and it might be if you live in a cold climate. Just use a broad multi viscosity oil and you'll be fine. I would stay away from single viscosity oils such as 30 weight or 50 weight. The MOST important thing is to change your oil and filter every 3000 miles or less.
Most any "High Quality" oil (Honda, Castrol, Valvoline, Spectro) will work fine as long as it is the right "Viscosity" for the temperature in which you are operating your ATV in. The most versitile viscosity I have found in the climate I ride is SAE 10W40 it will work well from (minus) -10F to +105F. The oils NOT recommended for use are: API SH or higherdisplaying a circular API "Energy Conserving" label on the container. These may affect lubrication and clutch performance. Also NEVER use "Non-Detergent, vegetable or castor based racing oils. Thanks RJ

10w40 is the oil that is recommended for a 2002 Honda Rebel 250. Do not use an oil that is lighter than 10w40.
10w40 four stroke motorcycle oil. do not use car or truck oil! 10w40 4 stroke oil is car & truck oil which are also 4 stroke engines. You can use the very same oil you use in your car and truck as long as you use the correct weight which is SAE 10w30 and not SAE 10w40. Read your owners manual and you will see it does not recommend 10w40. There is no difference in so-called motorcycle oil and car or truck oil. I do however highly recommend you use full synthetic oil in any air cooled engine.
Use only the weight recommended by Volvo and I doubt that they recommend 10w40.
I use Motul 10w40.
10w40 Semi Synthetic Oil
It is recommended to use 10W30 oil in colder temperatures during the winter months as it flows more easily at lower temperatures compared to 10W40 oil, which is better suited for warmer temperatures.
