No, a ride cymbal is much bigger (typically 19-24 inches) and is often played continuously thoughout a beat (hence the name 'ride'), and a splash cymbal is much smaller (4-10 inches typically) and used for single note accents.

There is not such thing as "boom cymbal", you must be confused with a "boom cymbal stand", which is a type of stand that has an additional horizontal "arm" in order to allow the placement of the cymbal (microphone, or any other accessory) to be moved in the horizontal plane. Just Google "boom stand", and you will see several examples.

I hope this answers your question.

As its name suggests, a splash cymbal makes a sound similar to that of a splash of water. splash cymbals are some of the smallest cymbals and are the main types of effects cymbals that are used with drums. Splash cymbals were created by a man named Gene Krupa.

no, a ride cymbal has more of a cleaner sound while a crash cymbal can sometimes sound like a gong (this is when the felts aren't tightened).

How many cymbals do you need for a drum set?

Not if you're ordering a brand new set from the manufacturer. The drums and the cymbals are made by 2 separate companies. Maybe if you went on eBay or a similar auction site there would be a used set for sale that came with cymbals. Or if you were buying them from a music store you could order the cymbals at the same time as the set. But they still didn't come with the drums.
