Married women were not allowed to teach in the 1800's, because married women usually get pregnant at some point in their marriage, and the schoolboards did not want to pay them for maternity leave, or have to find another teacher a such short notice. Also, i think mood swings might have been a part of it, but that's probably just a myth.

girls were aloud to read back then (in America at least).but if they weren't, it would be cuz some cultures think that males and females are not equal. they think men are better than women. so they would not treat females like they treat men - opportunity, education, and equality

It was social convention; women's place was considered to be in the home. Some did voice their opinions, but were considered to be mad.

Women weren't allowed to do much of anything outside of being a housewife and mother in the 1800s, at least in the USA.
