The kids represented in the movie are from a group in the 1950's who were called "greasers" because of the amount of "Grease" they used to slick down their hair. And that's what the musical is named after, the grease.

Grease means there hair gel. if you couldn't see, the wear a lot of hair gel! plus they have REALLY greasy hair!
