Hector's main role in The Iliad was that of killing and dishonoring Achilles' best friend, Patroclus. This engraged Achilles and led him to seek revenge.
The main character is referred to as the protagonist.
There are many themes in The Iliad. Some include: Heroism (and the heroic code), Fate (Determinism/Free Will), The Role of War, Women's Roles, The Gods/Mortals, Love/Respect/Friendship/Family & Death. There are many commentaries on what the Iliad is trying to mainly portray. For Achilles, it is mainly his realisation of universal suffering in Book 24, and his analysing of the society that he lives in.
The Greek hero Achilles is the main character of the Iliad, as the poem is about his conflicts with various characters, (first Agamemnon when the Mycaenean king commandeers Achilles' spoils of war, then Hector when he kills Achilles' cousin Patroclus, then technically the Trojan King Priam, when he comes to beg Achilles to give Hector's body back) XanatosAchilles.

The main theme in "The Grapes of Wrath" is the plight of the poor and marginalized during the Great Depression, and the resilience and solidarity of the working class in the face of adversity. It also explores themes of injustice, exploitation, and the human spirit's capacity for survival and hope.
I have searched many cites and Achilles does not have a symbol.

Achilles is a G!Well, the great hero Achilles refused to fight for the Achaeans (Greeks), so there lay our conflict. The epic is mostly about how the Achaean forces suffered countless losses because they didn't have the berserk Achilles behind them, slicing down men. And because Achilles is a one-of-a-kind warrior, they needed him. Then because he still refused to fight (something about his honor being wounded) his close friend wore his armour to fool the Trojans. Only problem? Patroclus (the friend) got himself killed by the Trojan hero Hector. So the new conflict is Achilles and his thirst for revenge against Hector. How that's resolved? Simple. Achilles kills Hector.
The main source of the story is Virgil's Iliad, a Latin epic poem from the time of Augustus
Achilles sought revenge for the death of Patroclus. The death of Patroclus was Achilles' main motivation for his killing of Hector.
