Because Canada is a nation distinct from the United States. The same reason why New Zealand is a separate nation from Australia (or vice versa).
Canada would gain nothing, and lose a great deal by becoming a part of the United States.
It's not like it happened by accident. Canada fought the War of 1812 to stay separate from the US.
the reason Canada and USA are diffrent is because usa is an independent country that is why they celebrate Independence Day. Canada is not an independent country because we are sort of run by England and that is why we also have the qween of England on are coins and Canada has a bigger land area but only half is used for living unlike the USA
That's a good question.
The seven years war which was ended by the Treaty of Paris (1763) was the event that made the idea of independence popular in the 13 colonies. The colonists were very unhappy with the taxes imposed on them to pay for the war.
-----------
However, the same Treaty ceded Canada and most of New France to Britain. So basically they had just gone through a social upheavel and were now newly part of Britain. Mostly the colonists in Canada were French. They were sociall extremely different than the 13 colonies that were now composed of mostly native born colonists of British descent.
-----------
After the American civil war, the USA was back in acquisition mode. The crown was afraid that they would conquer Canada (it was probably a valid fear). To prevent this they passed the British North America act to make Canada a country (not a territory of the UK). They correctly assumed that the USA would not invade an independent country.
The USA revolted, Britain tried to stop them, fought a bit, figured they were too busy elsewhere, and left them to it.
Canada stuck around until Britain made it clear they did not want to defend Canada should the USA decide to invade yet again. Canadians fearing invasion and wanting to be part of a larger trading block that did not include reciprocity with the USA, confederated with east coast Colonies.
Even then Canada didn't want to leave. When they had political troubles in the 1920's they ran to Britain to solve them. That forced Britain to make it very clear they wanted nothing to do with Canadian internal politics. Canada was told they could have a political position called Governor General but it would be meaningless to Britain. Britain would deal with Canada through an ambassador who answered to the British parliament. Still many Canadian believe our Governor General is the Queens representative and that our elected parliament answers to them.
The USA revolted and left, Canada was effectively kicked out but half the country feels it still has a room in the basement.
The chances of Canada being invaded by the US are non existent.
It was an agreement between Great Britain and the US that detailed the boundary between Oregon Country and Canada.
Canada is a separate country, it is not part of the US but is the territorial neighbour to the US in the north just as Mexico is the US' southern neighbour.
The lakes that separate the United States of America and Canada is actually called the "great lakes". There are not these lakes across the whole border of Canada, because most of them are more to the east. If you have noticed, if you put all the great lakes together, they spell "HOME".
Great Britian
1782. Britain did not separate from US it was the US that separated from Britain.
United Kingdom aka Great Britain
The chances of Canada being invaded by the US are non existent.
Great Britain used to own both of them.
Great Britain hasn't ruled (owned) Canada in quite a long time. So realistically they cannot give Canada to the US. I can't imagine Canada joining the US voluntarily either as we enjoy our society and way of life to much to give it up.

Britain has had nukes for a long time. After World War 2 the US shared its nuclear technology with Great Britain and Canada, and Britain developed into a nuclear armed nation.
When the US became independent, they bordered France (by Louisiana), Spain (by Florida), and Great Britain (by Canada).
