A lot of it has to do with the fact that your scalp releases the most heat from your body, heat activates dyes (and bleaches especially) so it's very common for the roots of your hair to become very light in a short amount of time, also the hair on your temple is your newest and healthyest hair, damaged, broken, or dyed hair doesn't bleach or dye as well at natural hair.I know this from personal experience because my natural hair color is very dark brown, at the moment I have it blue, I've had it blue for almost five years now, and in order for me to get it blue I have to bleach it to a nice platinum blond first. And if you're talking about greys.. Well it's because your hair grows from your temple silly :P
