Most likely its the fuse or a burnt bulb breaking the circuit. Sometimes the license plate and/or the trailer hitch is wired into other circuits and can cause issues in other areas. Sometimes its wires grounding out somewhere on the vehicle. See sources and related links below for bulb information. See owner's manual for location and identification of fuses.
Often this type of behavior is caused by a bad ground for the lighting circuit. Check the ground circuit for the brake lights.
PULL the light switch out (must be in lowbeam setting for fog lights to work)
Yellow lights are recommended. white lights reflect off the fog and back to you preventing you to see through the fog. The lights should also be as close to the ground as possible.

The headlights work on a totally different relay than the parking and fog lights. The headlight relay or headlight fuse is usually blown when only the parking and fog lights work.
Fog lights are only accessable when headlights are on; once headlights are on, pull shaft/stalk out to turn on fog lights.
Low beam headlights and fog lights if the vehicle has fog lights.

The light switch pulls out to turn on the fog lights. They won't come on with the brights. ----turn on the headlights and gently pull out that same knob--note fog lights will not work if hi-beam are on....junboy33
I believe you turn on your low beam headlights and then pull out on the selector switch to turn on the fog lights and then push it in to shut the fog lights off
its on the left turn signal switch, at the end is the headlights, then one in is the fog lights, you twist it just like you would the headlights
on the same switch that turns your head lights on...you should see a little pull switch at the tip, when you turn on the headlights pull it out...it will not work unless the headlights are on
Fog lamps can either be upper or lower, but in order to be street legal, they must be lower than the headlights.
They are often called fog lights.
