Why do people make fun of Freddy Krueger?

Freddy Krueger is not even real...and if freddy was real people make fun of him because they want to show they're not scared

My Opinion On Freddy:

I believe people make fun of freddy because of the almost comical way he executes his victims, some of the ideas in the first movie consisted of seemingly silly things, such as when he kills a victim with his own bedsheets, and when the phone is being held and it turns into his mouth, and at the end of the first movie he pulls nancy's mother through a tiny window in the front door and the mother is clearly a puppet when this happens, i think at the time of release this would have all been scary, but is difficult to appriciate in the modern day because of all the 'shocking' gore based films that are currently in circulation.

another thing that i think could cause people to make fun of him is that some of the movies really weren't Horror movies (for example the third one:dream warriors) the third movie became more of an action style film, and the characters featured were almost humerous because their character roles were so bizzare and quirky. im no expert on the films, but i have seen the first five and this is just my opinion on them, i do agree with the first answer and that people make fun of him simply because he scares them and the humour is a way of pretending that the character isn't scary.

I have been asking myself this same question ever since I joined WikiAnswers and started seeing all the questions from people who think he's real. For example:

"When did the real Freddy Krueger die?"

"Is Freddy Krueger still alive today?"

"What is the real story of Freddy Krueger?"

"Is the real Freddy Krueger dead?"

"What was A Nightmare on Elm Street based on?"

The only answer I can come up with is that rumors get passed around by schoolkids. Maybe one kid hears that Freddy is real from an older brother or sister who thinks it's funny to trick their younger sibling into thinking Freddy is real.

Then that kid goes to school and confidently proclaims to everyone that Freddy Krueger is real, "because my big brother told me so." Kids are naturally gullible. They'll believe anything, as long as the person they heard it from is older than they are, or just seems very confident that what they're saying is true.

Then all the kids who heard it from the first kid start telling everyone THEY know that Freddy is real. Maybe one kid is skeptical, so, to save face, they lie and say, "Yeah? Well I read about it in the newspaper, so it HAS to be true."

Other kids believe that this kid really did read about it in the newspaper. So THEY all go and tell everyone THEY know that, "Freddy is real. There are newspaper articles to prove it."

And so the lies just keep spreading.

I think that might be part of the answer. The other part is a lot simpler: a lot of people just do not possess the necessary intellect to understand the difference between movies and real life. It sounds incredible, I know. But people think all kinds of movie characters and monsters are real. It's not just Freddy Krueger. I mean, seriously! "Is Jurassic Park real?" "Is Star Wars real?" "Is Harry Potter real?" I certainly did not have to ask such questions when I was a kid. I understood perfectly that movies and TV shows aren't real.

I really don't understand how someone -- even a little kid -- could fail to understand that movies are make-believe stories. But it's true. They truly do not understand what movies are. They think that movies are the same thing as news footage. They think that moviemakers walk around all day with cameras and just conveniently happen to accidentally film a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end.

They don't understand that everything in a movie is fake. They don't understand that someone writes an imaginary story in the form of a screenplay (or, someone writes a novel, and then someone writes a screenplay based on it), and then they design a set, hire some actors, and act the whole story out in front of a bunch of cameras, scene by scene.

I mean, when you see a question like, "Are the deaths in horror movies real?" you HAVE to conclude that some people think that everything they see in a movie is real, just like with news footage.
