Just like most other immigrants, for a better life for their families. In the early 1900's, the influx of Chinese immigrants came because of the plentiful work, mostly unskilled, menial type of work - laying train tracks, working in mines where nobody would want to work, farm laborers.
People come to America to make money and to have a better job so that they can support their family. America as in the USA - It is supposed to be the country of freedom, opportunity and wealth. Those are questionable these days. There's also its achievements and mixture of nations.
Indians are very enterprising people in general (at least those who move overseas are) and there isn't enough opportunities back home. That in a nutshell is why Indians move to the US. Besides US is one country where the educated, innovative and enterprising can rise to the top. It is very attractive to the ambitious amongst the Indians.
