Atlantis was most likely made up by Plato. Scientist who study Atlantis believe it may have been in Antarctica, the Mediterranean Sea or in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. -------------------------------------------------- By gbaughma: This question pre-supposes that Atlantis actually existed. That has yet to be proven. The island of Atlantis was first mentioned by Plato in 360 B.C., telling stories of an island that existed about 9600 B.C. According to the story, the island sank into the ocean on a single night, after a failed attempt to invade Athens. There have been several stories about the location, but the name Atlantis indicates that it was somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

Apparently the capital of Atlantis was Atlantis. The earliest known discussion of Atlantis is in Plato's writings, essentially for the purpose of contrasting it with the city-state of Athens. However, since Plato's works are in the Public Domain by now, if you want to write your own story about Atlantis and call its capital city Georgis, no one can stop you.
Poseidon had a favorite city, Athens. As you may have guested Athens is the Greek goddess' Athena, goddess of wisdom. Poseidon and Athena fought for Athens but, in the end Zeus gave it to Athena.
No they were not. Pompeii was destroyed in 79 BC. It is now thought that Atlantis was the Greek island of Santorini, which in antiquity was called Thera. It is a volcanic island. Most of the island collapsed into the sea in a Volcanic eruption which is thought to have occurred in the mid-second millennium BC. But we have to keep in mind that the philosopher Plato in a book he wrote came up with the concept of an "ideal" society he called Atlantis and which according to him was sunk into the ocean as a punishment by the Gods right after they had supposedly tried to attack Athens. So Atlantis may also have been completely made up by him.
