the first class passengers were closer to the top of the boat, therefore could get to the lifeboats quicker. A lot of the lower class passengers couldn't get up to the deck in time to get a lifeboat as there were not enough. the first class passengers were closer to the top of the boat, therefore could get to the lifeboats quicker. Most of the 1st class children did survive. Many 1st class passengers didn't have children traveling with them. Lorraine age 2 was the only 1st class that died in the sinking along with her parents. Mostly children from steerage famalies died on the ship. Lorraine's 11 month old brother Trevor was the only family Survivor.

Type your answer here... Because there was a class system on the Titanic and first class passengers got preferential treatment over second and third class passengers. Many second and third class passengers were not allowed to go to lifeboat deck until many of the lifeboats had already been launched and were in the water rowing away from the Titanic.
