When India regained its independence from the British Empire in 1947, the schism between Muslims and Hindus impelled the division of the country into separate states, Pakistan and India.
(East Pakistan, once part of Pakistan, later became the independent state of Bangladesh.)

Mohandas Gandhi played a major role in the liberation of India. In 1947, through peaceful demonstrations Gandhi succeeded in liberating India from England. After which decolonization began. English officials recreated the boundaries for the different religious sects in India; the Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. This caused a mass human movement and religious rioting.
The two main ethnic groups in Guyana are Afro-Guyanese (descendants of slaves) and Indo-Guyanese (descendants of immigrants from India who came to work as indentured laborers on the sugar and rice plantations after slavery was abolished.
