Not the Queen. All royal roles are ceremonial in the Canadian system. The Prime Minister selects, appoints, and controls the GG. Should the Queen or GG say or do anything to suggest otherwise it would create a constitutional crisis in Canada.

Who appoints the person selected to the position of the governor general?

It is not the Queen. Many people think because we use the terms Queen and Royal that we have a Queen or answer to a Queen or have some official connection to Britain. It gets worst if one tries to read up on the Governor General because like Santa Claus the myth is written as if it is real. Even government documents will suggest the Queen appoints the GG. If the Queen tried to do any such thing it would create a major backlash in Canada, just as it would if the GG tried to do anything other than ceremonial things. The Prime Minister selects, appoints, controls the GG.
