A tropical ecosystem does exist in the far north, in north Limpopo Province, but South Africa as such could not be described as a tropical country, because the tropics are generally further north on the African continent. However, the climate on the east coast of South Africa is subtropical, while a subtropical highland climate is found in the northeastern interior.
