There are several different sub-sects of the Cheyenne tribe. Some of these tribes are located in South Dakota, around the Great Lakes of Minnesota and up into Canada.
The Comanche were originally part of the Shoshone tribe and separated from them before the 18th century - perhaps as early as 1500. Their languages are still very similar, but not identical. This separation resulted in the Comanche moving south and east into Texas, while the Shoshone remained in the Rocky mountains and Idaho.
In the historic period the Cheyenne were divided into two parts: Northern and Southern Cheyenne.
The Northern bands roamed across the territory that later became South Dakota, Wyoming and southern Montana; the Southern bands lived in the areas that later became Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.
Originally the Cheyenne seem to have moved from the area of Minnesota, just like the Sioux tribes; like them they took to a nomadic buffalo-hunting lifestyle when they obtained horses. Going further back into pre-history, the Cheyenne would have been an eastern woodlands people (hence their language is very distantly related to Ojibwe, Powhatan and Shawnee).
The Cheyenne Indians lived, no doubt, in California. I think in the Mountain Region..........or is
it the Central Valley Region?
