Louie Armstrong. He got his nickname 'Satchmo' from his shape of his embouchure which was described as looking like a satchel. This lead to the nickname satchel mouth and finally it was shortened to the name "Satchmo".
As Louis Armstrong was Black and and from a poor family I do not think he had any schooling.
His family-like neighbors paid him 50 cents a day for the chores he did for them, and slowly earned enough money to purchase his first $5 cornet. Later he bought a trumpet. :) Hope this helped. :)
