According to "Seagull -- the New York Theater Guide", and a surprising array of other sources, Adrew Lloyd Webber reports (rather frequently) that he's already finished the score for "Phantom of the Opera II", and is impatiently awaiting the lyrics from Tim Rice (Evita and other collaborations with Webber).
The idea has been in play for the last 10 years and is now greenlighted.
The Phantom of the Opera 2 is mostly about the Phantoms point of view, like what happened after Cristene (i don't know if her name is spelled right) left. They say that it is suppose to be coming out in March of 2011.
There is no sequels to any movie version. The only existing sequel is to the Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical's stage version. The sequel is of course on stage too and it's called Love Never Dies.

The 2004 Phantom of the Opera film adaptation was a movie derived from the musical by Ansrew Lloyd Webber, which was based on the novel by Gaston Leroux. The film begins in 1919, where ht edilapidated Paris Opera house holds an auction in sellign pieces. Raoul the Vicomte de Chagny now an old wheelchiar-bound man, purchases a music box. But he is distracted for the next piece, a broken chandelier now restored and electrically wired known as Lot 666. As the auctioneers display the restored chandelier, the opening crescendo of music wipes away the years of decay from the opera house as the black and white turns into color, and the audience is transported back in time to 1864, the beginning of the story, when the opera was in its prime. A disfigured musical genius called "The Phantom" lives in the deepest recess of hte opera house, and upon hearing the voice of Christine Daae he plots to place his protege at center stage. Christine is caught between the love of her childhood sweetheart Raoul, and her fascination with the Phantom. The Phantom plots to make Christine his, resorting to stalking her, as well as killing several people. After all is said and done, the final moments of the film are of Raoul visiting Christines grave (she died an old woman), and placing the music box there.
Blink-182 did a cover of the Phantom of the Opera.
The 1800s
Personally I think Gerard Butler did a pretty good job in the 2004 movie, however on stage Michael Crawford was brilliant in the original cast of Phantom, But also Ramin Karimloo who currently is playing Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webbers sequel Love Never Dies, played Phantom in the West End's production of Phantom of the Opera and cameo'd Christine's father in the 2004 movie Phantom of the Opera. He gives an breathtaking performance of Phantom in both Phantom and Love Never Dies and has a truly amazing voice.
Kevin McNally was in the 2004 film "The Phantom of the Opera" playing the role of Joseph Buquet. He was also in all three of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films in 2003, 2006 and 2007 as Joshamee Gibbs.
Phantom of the Opera was credited to Andrew Llyod Webber
