Cel stands for Celluloid not prison accomodations or batteries ( like Cell Phone). The now-defunct Saalfield company used Saalfield Cels for production of Fashion illustrations of famous Movie actresses- in the paper doll venue. These were sold in magazine format and were HIGH ART. Disney and other cartoonists used cel animation, but not by Saalfield. It was always pronounced Sal - afield, no, not about an itinerant Chaplain!
Short FilmsIn the late 1800s, Charles-Émile Reynaud created an experimental animation system called praxinoscope and began screening shorts in 1892. J. Stuart Blackton's Humorous Phases of Funny Faces(1906) was the first animation on standard film. Feature LengthEl Apóstol (1917) by Quirino Cristiani was the first animated feature length film. It used cardboard cutouts in the style of political cartoons. Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was the first cel-animated ("traditional animation") feature length film.
Really, I can just cut and paste the Wikipedia article here, but that won't be right. Classic animation, is really just cel animation. It is the type of animation where each 'frame' is drawn again and again for one slight movement. A few examples of usage of Classing Animation is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Anastasia (Don Bluf/Disney), Land Before Time, Bambi, et cetera. It is also referred to as traditional animation and cel animation. You can find a more informative description in the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_animation

Traditional animation refers to the original way animations were created. Drawings and paintings were made on cel acetates which were then replicated and photographed. Afterwards, these photos would be sequenced together to give an illusion of movement to the drawings. 3D Animation is a computerized animation technique which uses specialized software packages, such as Maya and AfterEffects, to make 3D characters and objects for animated features.
I just sold my autographed cel at a local auction. It sold for $1,145.00 unframed. Not bad seeing I paid only $385.00 about a year ago.
cel animation is usally hand drawn, therefore has more detail in the art.
No, the first animated film was created by Quirino Cristiani. El Apóstol, released in 1917, used cardboard cutouts that were moved for each frame.Walt Disney did create the first cel animated film (commonly referred to as traditional animation).
I believe this is a poor translation for a fan cel.

I am somewhat new to cel animation, but I know it has something to do with cartoon rendering. daz studio is free and has a good cartoon renderer.
Cel . "A cel, short for celluloid, is a transparent sheet on which objects are drawn or painted for traditional, hand-drawn animation. Celluloid was used for animation and film production up until the late 20th century, however, it burned easily and suffered from spontaneous decomposition, and was largely replaced by cellulose acetate plastics."

Hi I also have an animation cel of mascot striker for 94 Fifa World Cup. Do you have one or did you and where is the market for them? Thanks
cel animation is where one background is used, and the moving images are drawn over the top on acitate (clear plastic) and then there is 25 or 12 frames per second as with regular animations. each frame has a slightly different image and is changed after the photo is taken.
Animatics is traditional animation, also known as hand-drawn animation, classic animation, or cel animation. There is a lot of great information about animatics on the Animatic website.

Strengths of cel animation include the ability to achieve precise and consistent movement, as well as vibrant and detailed visuals. It also allows for easy correction and manipulation of individual frames. Weaknesses include the time-consuming and labor-intensive process, as well as the high production costs associated with hand-drawing each frame. Additionally, cel animation can sometimes lack the fluidity and natural motion of other animation techniques.
