My answer is Brooklyn,New York.I know they do it in Brooklyn because I live in Brooklyn and the street name I really notice it so its Brooklyn,New York.

The show is not filmed in New York but rather on a stage in California.

The inspirational location is not in Brooklyn but is the northwest corner of 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) and Waverly Place which is in the Manhattan neighborhood of Greenwich Village (West Village). If you watch carefully during some of the transitional scenes, the street signs showing this location can be clearly seen.

The set of the show is considerably different than the real location. There is a diner there called the Waverly Restaurant in a building similar in design (multi-story red brick) but different in decoration. The most striking difference is that Waverly Place is not really a "walking mall" as depicted in the show, but is rather a normal cross-town automobile traffic street.

Also, there is no antique subway car protruding from the building. Ironically, however, at that exact location is an entrance (stairway) to the New York City subway below ... the Waverly Place subway station!
