In Mary Poppins (1964), the movie, the most obvious birds were [1] the robin sung to during "Just a Spoonful of Sugar" and [2] the pigeons of St Paul sung about in "Feed the Birds".
Mary Poppins in every version (book, movie, play) arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane, somewhere in London, England, on the East Wind. She promised to stay until the wind changed.
It was classed as a Musical comedy with of course, fantasy overtones. the album from the film did quite well on the album charts, as i recall. P.S. I thought it stunk and by the way do not (generally) like (Musicals) it"s odd I have nothing against music- just went to an Organ concert yesterday- but musical comedies- either the comedy is good and the music so-so or the music is okay ( Like , for the most part, Sound Of Music) but the comedy in that case almost non-existent. I saw it as a child ( first stage play I ever saw) and was baffled- a family on the lam, fleeing the police- daddy recalled to active duty in the Navy, that"s not comedy fodder!
