In most states, the maximum age to go into juvenile court is 18. In some states, the age is 16 or 17. Wyoming has the highest max age at 19. However, just because someone may be under these age limits, they may still be tried as an adult if the courts decide so.

Although it MAY depend on the individual law in your particular state, the term juvenile is generally applied to anyone under the age of 18 years of age, and in some states ONLY applied to those minors who (by state statute) are considered to have attained the 'age of reason.'

There is no such thing as third-degree murder in Canada. Juvenile offenders can be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years confinement for first-degree murder. However, at 14 years of age, an offender charged with murder or manslaughter is automatically tried as an adult unless they can show cause why they should be tried as a juvenile.
