I think we can all agree that a movie is more entertaining than a live play. Plays are performed live, therefore the producers can't make any special effects or animation to make it more adventurous and entertaining. But in contrast, in a movie the producers can make amazing effects happen on screen that couldn't happen in a live production in a play. For example, movies often have multiple explosions, mutations, bloody deaths, shape shifting or full-on wars that are edited in to make it more intense. It's not possible to make these special effects possible in live play productions, because we don't have the technology yet.
Movies give you a more realistic, in depth kind of feel to them when you're watching them. They make you feel like you're there and can experience what's happening in that specific scene. In movies, you can see the actor's tears or the faintest whisper because the camera can zoom in and out, making it more convenient for the viewer to understand the scene. Movies can also be re-shot many times if one of the characters forgets their line or messes up. In addition to this, movies also give the producer the ability to add various amounts of special effects and animation to that certain shot. You can also watch a movie in the comfort of your home without having to go out.
Plays are live theatrical productions that take place in a theatre on stage. Plays are performed live in front of an audience and can't be reshot as they can in movies. They are a onetime thing, so if you mess up you have to keep going. If you make a mistake, you have to stay in character because your line can't be redone. Although, actors in plays can see how the audience is reacting to their character. They are able to change their performance depending on how the audience reacts. Also, no actor can act the same in every performance, so each time an actor performs, each one of them is always unique. It's interesting to see how they will change their performance depending on what they think they need to do to improve.
Even though movies and plays seem to differ a lot, there will always be one way that they will always be the same. Both plays and movies have actors who are putting on a show to entertain an audience. Although one may have special features and one may be performed live, they are both trying to get across the same message. They both want to entertain the viewers with their talent of acting and tell the in-depth story of their character to the world.
A play is live and reperformed multiple times in the course of its run. A film is shot once, with many takes of course, and then edited and released to theatres where you can go and see it. A play is a bit harder because you get no 2nd chances since the whole performance is live, but it does make it fun to go back a 2nd time to watch since the actors like to adlib and add a little something different each performance.
Generally play scripts are written with the name of the charachter on the left and then the writing follows it. In stories they are written in paragraph form
As far as the layout goes: scripts are written mostly as dialogue. The character's name, sometimes typed in all capital letters, may be either on the left margin or centered on the line above the dialogue (especially in film). The character's name is followed by the dialogue, single spaced, with double spacing between speeches, and between dialogue and stage directions. There are no quotation marks unless the character is quoting someone else. What little description there is comes in the form of the stage directions. Stage directions are within parentheses or brackets, and are usually underlined or in italics. That way the actor knows that is is not dialogue, and is not supposed to be spoken. In plays the dialogue takes up the full line, with one inch margins on both sides. Stage directions take up only half the line starting in the center of the page. For films, the camera directions take up the full line, with one-inch margins, with dialogue taking up only half the line, with three inch margins on each side of the dialogue.
Artistically, there is no difference. The author and the playwright use plot and character to convey the story. The novelist uses much more description. In plays, the dialogue carries most of the content.
The difference between a play, a script, and a story is that a script is the words written out for the actors. The script will have words and direction written on it. A play is acted out on a stage. Actors in play use their bodies and voice to tell a story. A story can be in a book, or on television. It is the telling of a certain event.
Dump book but love the movie! :)
Peter Pan was originally a play, so the biggest difference between that and Peter and Wendy is that the former is a play and the latter is a novel. :) The novel was published 7 years after the play, so there are some revisions to the story, things added, some left out, and some just told differently. The novel P&W was later published under the titles Peter Pan and Wendy and just plain Peter Pan. These are the same novel as P&W.
A major character is the focus of the story. Major characters are different at the end of the story than they were at the beginning of a story. The same is not so true of supporting characters.
skit is shorter and may have just one or two acts, but a play is longer and can have many scenes, acts
A play might be shorter as to a story could be longer.
