The film is often noted for not having a distinct climax, but generally, critics agree that due to the timing and emotional response to the anti-war rally scene in which Forrest and Jenny reunite in the center of the Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., that that scene can be considered the climax of the film.
Forrest Gump, the movie, does not follow the regular movie format, but flows at it's own pace. If there was a climax to Forrest Gump it was probably the wedding of Forrest and Jenny, 2/3 through the film. At best, it was bittersweet, for Forrest and for us, the audience, due to the fact that Jenny dies.
After Forrest meets Jenny, he later discards his leg braces and his ability to run fast gets him into college via a football scholarship.
At graduation of college, Forrest enlists in the army and is sent to Vietnam to fight in the war. He meets Bubba, who wants Forrest to go into the shrimping business after the war. Bubba is later killed in the action, but Forrest saves the rest of his platoon, for which he is awarded the Medal of Honor.
Forrest later realizes he's good at Ping-Pong, playing competitively. At an anti-war rally in Washington DC, Forrest reunites with Jenny, who took up being a hippie. Forrest later buys himself a fishing boat, from which he uses his income to buy a fleet of fishing boats. He earns a lot of money this way.
One day, Jenny returns to visit Forrest and he proposes to her. She declines but sleeps with him to prove her love. The next day, Forrest goes running (for no apparent reason) and over the next few years becomes famous by running around the country. Jenny hears about this and gives Forrest the news that she has a young son fathered by Forrest. The three move back to Greenbow, Alabama, where they marry. However, Jenny dies soon afterward from a virus she was suffering from.
The story ends with Forrest waiting with his son at a bus stop on his son's first day of school. A feather is caught in a breeze and drifts skyward, like the movie's beginning.
