No you must buy a 20GB model CECHB01 or 60GB model CECHA01 that was produced with the emotion engine as part of the hardware and software if you require that feature
No most do not play any PS2 games and only a few old 4 USB port PS3s play any. All PS3s with 2 USB ports do not play PS2 games. Every PS3 produced after August 2008 does not play PS2 games and neither did the 40 GB models produced before then

No PS3 games were developed with the PS3 system's capabilities considered. PS2 games were not developed for the PS3 and play like on a PS2 because to play the game on a PS3 the console must act like a PS2.
sadly there is no gameshark for ps3
hardware that plays ps2 games on your ps2 or ps3 depending on model

no. The new ps3's will not play ps2 titles. They are missing the emotion engine. The best ps3 for ps2 games is the 60 gb version.
ponypomp; The 20 gig and 60 gig NTSC models of the Sony PS3 are the absolute best models for backwards compatability with the Sony PS2. These models contain PS2 circuitry in hardware. Each of these units contains a full PS2 Emotion Engine (EE).
It would also be newer and have WiFi built in, all the other advantages would go to the 20 GB model that includes the emotion engine and cost more to produce and is also a collectible as the number available in working condition continues to decrease.
No it is not true or even possible to be true and not widely known and reported. PS3 models were first released on November 2006 so the oldest PS3 model is less than 4 years old. Those models from the first release are in demand having the highest used PS3 prices because they include PS2 emotion engine hardware and can play many PS2 game titles.
The PS3 was originally made at a loss and contained 4 USB ports and also Flashcard readers and a PS2 emotion engine that allowed most PS2 games to be played. The 20 GB model did not include a wireless capability and still sold well for $500 and the 60GB with WiFi was $600 in the USA. more information of a techinical nature is available at the related link
Older PS3 Models with 4 USB ports will play PS2 games as seen on related PlayStation network link. All PS3 models with only 2 USB ports can not play PS2 games and there are no updates, downloads or additional hardware or cables that will allow them to play PS2 games. All models of PS3 can play PS1 games with software emulation.
on ps3 xbox 360 and PC
yes indeed it does.
Customers complained if any worldwide title would not work in the PS3. Release of European PS3 model had to be with partial Software emulation further making less titles that worked perfectly. Everyone does not understand that games are only licensed for the PS2 and they can not make the Developer fix the games to work in the PS3. Some developer were merged or out of business and other did not want they games compatible and instead wanted to sell new games. Sony found it could not make a PS3 that could play all the PS2 titles even when they used the PS2 emotion engine. It's not just one problem or even only the ones mentioned.
You can not. Many PS3 80 GB models do not have the 4 USB ports that allow backward compatibility and have no advantage over the 120 GB models anyway. The Fat PS3 consoles all do run hotter than the PS3 slim models and have shorter lifespans because of this. Sure you can replace the 120 GB harddrive with a PS3 80 GB harddrive if you also add the software for the 120 GB model. You can trade your PS3 toward a 60 GB PS3 model if you want, but you would be smarter to keep both models and only use the old PS3 to play PS2 games. There is no reason to want an 80 GB PS3 as the 60 GB model does not have the less capable partially software based emulation backward compatibility used in the 4 USB port 80 GB models and instead has the emotion engine to provide the best available backward compatibility used only in the first 20 and 60 GB PS3 for the USA and Japan.
