Henry IV
Henry IV, King of France at 1598 issued the Edict of Nantes which gave religious freedom to Huguenots who were Calvinist Protestants while the magority of France was Roman Catholic. From the exercise of the religious freedom were excluded a number of French cities including Paris.

That means that in order to save the France from being destroyed as a country, because of religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, Henry IV, who was a fervent Calvinist but also the heir to the throne accepted to abjure his faith and converted to the Catholicism. By so doing he succeeded in appeasing the country. After having crowned King of France on Feb.27, 1584, he granted the liberty of cult to the Protestants by the Edict of Nantes in 1598, ending the civil war.

It may be a little clearer this way... Henry was a Huguenot as King of Navarre, but he had to renounce his Protestant faith and convert to Catholicism to become King of France. Henry became noted for an unusually high level of religious tolerance, but he was eventually assassinated by a fanatical Catholic.
