In hey Arnold episode parents day grandpa Phil, Arnold's grandpa, told him what happen to his real parents, he said that a friend of his father, a Spanish man from central or south America named Eduardo came to him personally and told him that a village in the middle of the jungle was stroke by a terrible virus and there was no cure for this illness.
So he came to the city where Arnold grew up in and persuade him to help him to find the cure for this terrible virus. But his dad didn't agree to help because of Arnold and felt that he and his wife should spend time with him.
After much persuasion, he agreed to help and
told Arnold that they will be back in two weeks time.
After helping Eduardo find the cure, his parents left and started heading home but they didn't arrive at there destination and where never heard again.
His grandparents raised him and became what he was today.
He told his grandpa that maybe his parents might come back someday but time will tell.
By the way, his father and mother are explores and scientist and that explain why they know about jungle life and so on.
And his Spanish friend asking for help.
They first met each other by chance in a jungle country searching for something.
Interesting that data on Arnold's parents is much harder to come by in cyberspace than one would think. I found this on a blogger's site and found a few more references that have survived the purging <?> of "Terminator'" pages where this data is not noted. This might have to do with the fact that Arnold plans to run for President at some future date and wants to keep his lack of status as Constitutionally "natural born" in America on the down low :). The current movement in this direction (an apparent knee-jerk to Obama's mysteriously missing birth certificate) is even called the "Terminator Movement" !
"Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, a small village bordering the Styrian capital Graz, and was christened Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger. His parents were the local police chief Gustav Schwarzenegger (1907-1972), and his wife, the former Aurelia Jadrny (1922-1998). They were married on October 20, 1945-Gustav was 38, and Aurelia was a 23-year-old widow with a son named Meinhard."

No. In the episode "The Journal" They reveal his parents (Miles and Stella) are explorers. His mom is a Botanist and they went to South America because they heard of an unknown disease that was killing plants, animals, and humans. Sometime after Arnold is born (He was born during their trip), they go back to America. But they are called back to South America. So they give Arnold to Miles's parents and they take off.
