Helen was not a goddess, she was a queen. Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena had an argument over who was the greatest. To decide, they went to a mortal prince named Paris. and each offered him a bribe: Hera power, Athena victory in battle, and Aphrodite the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris chose Aphrodite, who helped him take Helen from her husband Menelaus. This started the Trojan War. Whether Helen went willingly or not is unknown. After the war ended, Menelaus brought her back to Sparta.

When Menelaus and Helen married, every other man had to swear an oath saying they would not bother the relationship (as Helen was the most beautiful women in the world).
