The external conflict in "The Pact" by Jodi Picoult revolves around the criminal investigation into the death of Emily Gold, a teenage girl whose apparent suicide is questioned by the authorities. This conflict leads to strained relationships, legal battles, and the revelation of dark secrets within the community.
