The style of the 1920 was more of the flapper type, and very loose.

In the 1920's America was recovering from WWI. Fashion had suffered significantly then. Skirts reached about half way up the calf, and the waist was worn very low. The ideal look was sort of boyish, very long, lean, and flat chested with short hair. Makeup was just becoming popular, and the receding skirt line put more focus on shoes and sheer beige stockings. Flappers were rare at first, but there style was cheap and easy to make, so the middle class soon emulated them. I recommend fashion-era.com for information on any decade.

In the early 1800s women wore long free flowing dresses that had shaped sleeves. In the mid to late 1800s the women wore dresses that had mutton sleeves and hoop skirts. They also wore corsets to give them an hourglass shape. Men during the 1800s wore long jackets, vests, and wool pants. In the 1900s the dresses had large stiff collars and big hats. Men in the early 1900s wore lounge coats, three piece suits, and trousers that the were shorter.
