The federalists wanted to go to war with France because they attacked the U.S. ships
They did not want China to become unstable.
Because people from New France did not want to go to North America
Because A. that would be kind of like Russia just randomly taking over Japan, and B. the British (and probably the rest of the NATO) would help Canada give the states a very painful ass-kicking if they tried to. For example, the war of 1812, the Americans thought that they could get more land by kicking the British out...Well 55 years later, Canada became a country in that area, where Britain kicked America's ass, and C. Who the heck tries to take over their own ally? --------------------------- America already protects Canada, dominates them militarily, and has everything they want from Canada. There is no need to "take over" Canada.
Britain has still contact with India. It is not bad to have them.
Britain
Not only did other countries start to want independance from Great Britain, but America now owed lots of money to France. Though there was a period of prosperity, with the entire world at peace. Also the war reviled to Great Britain all of their militarily weaknesses.

because Britain refused to stop seizing American ships that traded with France
they wanted beaver pellets, which were very profitable. They also wanted more land and to compete with Britain in the race to colonize the New World
France had been greatly hit by world war one and so would want to be harsh on the Germans to get revenge
France and Britain both confiscated American ships and goods during the Napoleonic times. Great Britain also impressed American seamen and forced them into the British navy. This is because France and Britain were fighting each other. They did not want each other to get goods from America. And Britain was angry that Americans had French help during the American Revolution.
France and Britain had been fighting in wars for centuries. The most recent war before the Revolutionary War was the Seven Years War when Britain had defeated France and most of North America was handed over to Britain. Now France really had a bone to pick. With the expertise of Dr. Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson (representing America), King Louis XVI helped Americans in the revolutionary war by sending financial aide and by sending French troops to American shores to defeat Britain in combat. Defeat of Britain with help of France eventually came with the defeat of Cornwallis in Virginia.
Britain and France had been at war with one another for decades, off and on for centuries. Supremacy in Europe was their larger issue. Canada just happened to be a relatively minor battleground in their ongoing struggle.
