The socs are a bunch of rich kids who wear madras and have mustangs. They throw party's and hurt greasers for fun. Greasers have the rough side of it all. Johnny Cade for instance is beaten by his alcoholic and abusive parents. He was also jumped by the socs. Ponyboy Curtis, the youngest of the Curtis brothers, wants more in life. His older brother, Sodapop wants to marry Sandy and have his horse named Mickey. But they were too poor to buy the horse and Sandy's parents moved her away to keep Soda from marrying her. Darry, the oldest of the three brothers, is 22 and has to work all the time to provide for his brothers (since their parents were killed in a car accident) He is always aching and is stressed out all the time. Dally Winston grew up in NYC where he got in tons of trouble. He is always in jail. Steve Randle (Soda's best bud) is constantly kicked out of the house because his parents don't like him. He hates his dad. Two-bit is always drunk to 'escape' his horrible life.
