David Lynch's 1986 film "Blue Velvet" is a highly disturbing, yet brilliant look into the dark side of a small town, and in a broad sense, the duality of mankind and how thin the line is between being a "good person" and "bad person". But there is one scene that makes me cringe every time I see it. The main protagonists, Jeffrey and Sandy (played by Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern, respectively) have just met, and it's clear Jeffrey is trying to impress Sandy. He says to her, "Do you know the 'Chicken Walk'?", and proceeds to demonstrate said walk, byt crouching down and strutting like a chicken. Sandy gives him a pity laugh and says it's interesting, and Jeffrey looks very pleased with himself. There's no reason for this scene to be there, as it doesn't move the plot ahead, and isn't really needed as character exposition for Jeffrey. It's awkward and cringey. In fact, now that I've thought about it again, I believe in the future when I watch this movie, I'll fast-forward past the Chicken Walk.

"Action movies" include variations on chase scenes (running, driving) and fight scenes (punching, martial arts, weapons) because these tend to provide adrenalin-producing excitement in the viewers. Running and driving scenes include a maximum of run time for a minimum of production cost, and are more directly stimulating than dialogue. Also because he is a good runner and he looks good running.
