Although Lac du Bourget ("Lake of Le Bourget") is the largest lake and deepest lake in France, the largest body of water is the Lake Geneva or Lake Léman. Lake Geneva (Lac Léman in French) is the largest lake at 224 square miles, but it is partially in Switzerland. Lac d'Hourtin-Carcans in Gironde is the largest lake entirely within France at 22 square miles.
